History
1994
The company was founded in 1994 by Michele Molinari as a sole proprietorship in Winterthur, Switzerland. In the early years, Michele worked as a freelance engineer on various orders and projects on a contract basis for various customers in Switzerland, Germany, Colombia, Venezuela, the USA and Hong Kong. In 1996, the company moved to Wiesendangen.
1999
The Molinari team began to grow in 1999, when project support started for the retrofit of the Integral trainset for Bayerische Oberlandbahn. By 2003, the team had grown to about 20 engineers; in the same year, the company completed its conversion to a joint-stock company.
2005
In early 2005, Molinari Rail Austria was founded in Jenbach, and the former engineering team from the Jenbach Works of Connex Verkehr was absorbed into the new company. The team then comprised about 19 long-standing, highly experienced employees.
2009
The offices of Molinari Rail in Wiesendangen became to small over the years due to the ever growing number of employees. In February 2009, the company moved to Winterthur to Merkurstrasse 25 where the Molinari Rail AG still has its headquarters.
2013
The team in Jenbach continued to grow over the years thanks to many exciting orders, leading to a shortage of office space at the GE Jenbacher premises. In 2013, the space situation improved dramatically when the company moved to Schwaz, about 8 km from the original site in Jenbach. First, temporary premises were rented; then on November 1, 2014, the company moved to the current location at Münchener Strasse 15 in Schwaz. Today, Molinari Rail GmbH employs about 70 engineers in Schwaz, including two apprentice.
