Lightrail System (Cochabamba, Bolivia)

Bolivia Relies on Swiss Railway Expertise

With the “Tren Metropolitano de Cochabamba”, Molinari Rail has realised Bolivia’s first rail-based local transport system. The new light rail system was inaugurated by President Luis Arce in September 2022. With the tramway built by Molinari Rail and the consortium partner Urbas Group, the city with over 600,000 inhabitants including the region will receive an environmentally friendly transport option that connects people with each other and better links the economy.

The new public transport network with a total length of 42.7 kilometres and 43 stops consists of three lines: Linea Roja, Linea Verde and Linea Amarilla. On these lines, twelve Metelitsa low-floor trams from Stadler with a capacity of 376 passengers per train unit are being operated.

Molinari Rail is responsible for the comprehensive planning, construction, and commissioning of all railway technology. As part of a reforestation plan, a wide variety of tree species were also planted parallel to various track sections.
