Subway Maintenance & Storing Yard (Cairo, Egypt)
Kozzika – New Maintenance and Storing Yard
Cairo is shifting passenger traffic from road to rail. Our contribution to this transformation is the new rolling stock maintenance and storing yard in Kozzika, an important addition to the metro Line 1 service points.
For this pioneering project in the capital on the Nile, Molinari Rail and its partner Bureau Egyptien de Conseils Techniques BECT provided engineering consultancy and supervision services from construction to commissioning.
Our scope of works included the design checking and supervision of the delivered systems for signalling, SCADA and telecommunication. Furthermore, our Experts ensured that the demanded technical signalling requirements to maintain the correct/safe functioning of all SIL4-sensitive installations were met.
The yard for the new metro fleet consists of a workshop (7 tracks) and storing area (11 tracks), a signalling building, a compressor building, a rectifier station and a control cabinet room.
The metro is operated by the National Authority for Tunnels NAT, that belongs to the Egyptian Ministry of Transport.
